Why Telecom Security Needs Extra Attention

At the upcoming Cybersec Europe on May 21 and 22, visitors will get the chance to explore a crucial yet often invisible aspect of our digital safety: telecom networks. Jeremy Schmidt, cyber security incident response analyst at Proximus ADA, will take the stage at the Tech Stage to explain how telecom traffic is being better secured.

In his talk “From Signals to Security: integrating SS7 data into modern SOCs”, Jeremy Schmidt will demonstrate how the signals that generate our calls and messages can be better protected. It’s a part of security that often remains under the radar, even among professionals.

But in today’s digital era — and especially given the current geopolitical climate — securing telecom networks is of vital importance.
“Integrating SS7 data into Security Operations Center (SOC) operations improves threat detection, response times, and overall security,” says Schmidt.
“By combining traditional signaling data with modern SOC practices, we aim to create a more resilient and responsive security infrastructure.”

This integration is part of a broader trend.
“In the near future, Security Operations Centers that manage the protection of all IT infrastructure — including telecom and operational technology — will become the norm rather than the exception,” Schmidt adds.

Jeremy Schmidt will speak at the Tech Stage on May 21, during day 1 of Cybersec Europe.
